Hello!

David Lukaszczyk is excited to be the new Assistant Band Director!

My Story

Mr. David Lukaszczyk is thrilled to be joining the Leyden Music Department as the Assistant Director of Bands. He graduated from Illinois State University in May 2026 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, where he studied saxophone. During his time at Illinois State, he was an active member of the School of Music and band program, performing in concert bands, jazz ensemble, University Glee, and other campus ensembles. He also served as a saxophone section leader in the ISU Marching Band, an undergraduate conductor for the university campus band, and a teaching assistant for beginning conducting courses.

Prior to joining Leyden, Mr. Lukaszczyk completed his student teaching at Deerfield High School and Hawthorn Middle School South. He also served as a Marching Band Assistant for the award-winning Bloomington High School Marching Raiders, which placed seventh at the 2025 Illinois State Marching Band Championships. In addition, he worked as a counselor for Illinois State University Band Camps and the Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association.

As an active arranger, Mr. Lukaszczyk writes music for ensembles and schools throughout Illinois. In 2024, he was honored to arrange a patriotic medley titled “The Pride of Illinois” for the Illinois State University Marching Band, which continues to be performed at every home football game.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Lukaszczyk is an active saxophonist in the Chicagoland area, performing with concert bands, jazz ensembles, and church groups. In his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors, cooking, and exploring new foods.
